I do appreciate the comment.  We have some extended area
coverage locations that appear to be compressed by the way
they both sound and have problems logging in.

Are you absolutely sure that inter-machine trucks are never
compressed?  I wouldn't think the technology to do so would
be either brain surgery or expensive.

You are mixing what they are required to deliver to the customer via
Pairgain and other make do local loops with what they do as a matter of
practice on intermachine trunks which are all 64k DS0 and multiples thereof.
