In my case, the good guy is a tiny family-owned shop. Not even a certificated
CLEC, but let's not get into that issue.... L3 doesn't cover the area he's
in. Do they cover your area?
L3 is all over my biggest city, which has an aging UUNet pop
that is reputed to be on its last leg. Focal and L3 have put in
VNXX to three tiny towns just across the LATA boundary that
have local calling into one of my towns. In the later case, Valor
has to haul the calls and hand them over to SBC so they can
eventually land at Focal's switch in Dallas. Focal quoted me
$1K per DS1 plus COLO plus, plus... :[

So I end up competing with wmconnect at 9.94, plus AOL,
earthlink, MSN, some turkey trying to make a living on 6.95 a
month, yada yada yada, etc., etc.... Ain't fun given the cost
of rural backbone and PRI.

L3 just put in their stuff a couple of months ago. When they
initially did it, they didn't have EAS - but that changed shortly
after that. Focal has been drilling me for nearly a year with
their deal.

A level playing field just isn't happening in this case.

Larry
